Dr. Doug Scarborough is the Sports Medicine, Spine, and Orthopedic Coordinator for Medwest-Haywood Rehab Services. He has been helping athletes and active individuals since 1999. He holds a master's and doctoral degree in physical therapy from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences and a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Miami. He also has written professionally for LIVESTRONG.com and participates in endurance mountain bike events and triathlons in his spare time. |

Carolina West Sports Medicine—Cullowhee
Carolina West Sports Medicine offers an outpatient physical therapy clinic, located in the Ramsey Center on the campus of Western Carolina University. Our therapists are skilled in treating a wide variety of diagnoses, and specialize in the treatment of orthopedic and sports medicine related injuries, including rehab of WCU’s student-athletes.
Our focus is on providing one-on-one, personalized care for our patients. Patients are typically treated by the same therapist throughout their plan of care, offering an attention to detail and the sublties of each individual's progress that we believe truly makes a difference in our patients' outcomes.

Carlyle Schomberg, MPT, a licensed Physical Therapist, is the Director of Sports Medicine and Rehab Services. He received his B.S. from Duke University, where he also played baseball. He earned his Master's in Physical Therapy from Western Carolina University. Carlyle has returned to Sylva after three years in Birmingham, AL, where he worked in sports medicine at Health South Sports Medicine, where he treated numerous high school, collegiate, and professional athletes. |

Thomas Burns, MPT, OCS, CSCS is a Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy. He received his B.S. from the University of Georgia, and his Master's in Physical Therapy from Western Carolina University. As a graduate assistant he was able to work in WCU's Human Movement Science Lab, in addition to enjoying various teaching opportunities. Thomas enjoys treating a wide variety of patients, with a strong interest in orthopedic manual therapy, and provides biomechanical gait evaluations for runners. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, has extensive experience with running, cycling, and mountain biking and is a licensed cycling coach with USA Cycling. Thomas is also a clinical instructor with WCUs Physical Therapy and Athletic Training programs. |

Mary Curtis McCracken, MPT, LAT, ATC, is a licensed Physical Therapist and Athletic Trainer. She received her B.S. in Physical Education from UNC, and her Master's in Education and Physical Therapy from Western Carolina University. Mary Curtis worked in orthopedics and sports medicine for three years in Daytona Beach, FL, where she was the director of Sports Medicine at Performance Physical Therapy and Rehab of Ormond Beach. Mary Curtis is certified in Sports Metrics and does ACL prevention for the local high school athletes. |

Catherine Bevilacqua, MPT, is a licensed physical therapist. She received her B.S. in Psychology from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, and then earned her Master's in Physical Therapy from Western Carolina University. Catherine has a strong interest in orthopedics and sports medicine and is working toward her board certification as an orthopedic specialist through the American Physical Therapy Association. |
