For an appointment, please call 828-586-7934 or toll-free at 866-3036. PHYSICIANS Quayle Neslen, Jr., MD is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He attended medical school at George Washington University in Washington, DC and performed residencies at Piedmont and at Emory University Hospitals in Atlanta, Georgia. He is a member of Sylva Orthopaedic Associates, PA, with over twenty-six years of experience in Orthopaedic medicine and has been a WCU team physician since 1980. Lawrence W. Supik, MD is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery and attended medical school at East Carolina University School of Medicine in Greenville, North Carolina. He performed his residency at Orlando Regional Medical in Orlando, Florida. He is a member of Sylva Orthopaedic Associates, PA with over fourteen years of experience in Orthopaedic medicine and has been a WCU team physician since 2002. Martin A. Senicki, DO is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He attended medical school at the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific at Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California and performed a residency at Chicago Osteopathic Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. He is a member of Sylva Orthopaedic Associates, PA with over nineteen years of experience in Orthopaedic medicine and has been a WCU team physician since 2005. Robert E. Metts, MD is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and attended medical school at the University Of Connecticut School Of Medicine in Farmington, Connecticut. He performed his residency at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia. He is a member of Sylva Orthopaedic Associates, PA with over 10 years of experience and has been a WCU team physician since 2006. STAFF Carlyle Schomberg, MPT, a licensed physical therapist, is the Director at Carolina West Sports Medicine. He is a graduate of Duke University where he played baseball for the Blue Devils. He earned his Masters degree in Physical Therapy through Western Carolina University’s graduate physical therapy program. Carlyle returns to Sylva after three years in Birmingham, AL, where he worked in sports medicine at Health South Sports Medicine, treating numerous high school, college, and professional athletes. Anita Johnson, BS, RT(R), ROT, is Triage Coordinator for Carolina West Sports Medicine. Anita is a Registered Radiologic Technologist, and a Registered Orthopaedic Technician and has worked in Orthopaedic medicine for over fourteen years. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Business/Health Care Management from Kaplan University. While Anita performs many duties at the clinic, her particular areas of expertise include imaging, casting, and overall patient care. Mary Curtis McCracken, MPT, ATC, is a licensed physical therapist and athletic trainer. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Physical Education and her Master’s Degree in Education and Physical Therapy from Western Carolina University. She assisted various teams at UNC as a student athletic trainer and became a graduate assistant at WCU. Mary Curtis worked in orthopaedics and sports medicine for three years in Daytona Beach, FL, and was Director of Sports Medicine at Performance Physical Therapy and Rehab of Ormand Beach where she coordinated all athletic training services for the United States Tennis Association (Florida Section). Mary Curtis is a certified instructor for the Sportsmetric jump training program which helps reduce knee injuries in female athletes. She has performed this program with many local female high school athletes. Clinically, Mrs. McCracken specializes in orthopedic physical therapy treatments, mainly of the extremities. She is also a clinical instructor for physical therapy students and WCU's athletic training students. Jennifer Murray, ATC, is a licensed and certified athletic trainer. Jennifer earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Fitness with a concentration in Athletic Training from UNC-Charlotte, where she worked with the women’s basketball, softball, and soccer teams, as well as the men’s soccer team. She then earned a Master’s Degree from WCU in Physical Education. Jennifer has worked with Carolina West as the Athletic Trainer at Cherokee High School for the past 6 years. In addition to Jennifer's athletic training duties at Cherokee high School, she also performs insurance pre-certifications, coding, and is the liasion for Western Carolina university's athletic insurance coverage. Jennifer is also a clinical instructor for WCU's athletic training students Carrie Powell, ATC, EMT-P, is a licensed and certified athletic trainer. Carrie earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training from Lenoir-Rhyne College and has earned a degree from Western Carolina University in Emergency Medicine. Carrie is a board certified paramedic. Carrie has a strong interest in evaluations of head injuries, and has attended training for use of the Impact system for evaluations of concussions. Thomas Burns, MPT, CSCS, is a licensed physical therapist and certified strength and conditioning specialist. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Georgia and his Master’s Degree from Western Carolina University’s graduate physical therapy program. As a graduate assistant he was able to work with three dimensional movement analysis in WCU’s Human Movement Science Lab, in addition to enjoying various teaching opportunities within the physical therapy program. Thomas has extensive experience with running, cycling, and mountain biking and is a licensed Cycling Coach with USA Cycling. |
