The Pulmonary Rehabilitation Services at WestCare Health System are designed to educate and physically recondition participants.

The primary goal of this service is to enable each individual to achieve a personal level of physical, psychological, vocational, and social health through three phases of rehabilitation: In-patient; Out-patient; and Maintenance.

Services are offered for the following diagnoses:

  • COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease)

      --Emphysema
      --Chronic Bronchitis 

  • Reactive Airway Disease (Asthma)
  • Lung Transplantation (before and after)
  • Occupational / Environmental Disease (asbestos, fume, vapor exposure)

 

Educational topics include:

  • Management of Lung Disease
  • Nutrition and the Lungs
  • Warning signs of Infection
  • Medications
  • Stress Management / Relaxation
  • Home Exercise
  • Proper Breathing Techniques

 

Benefits to the Participant are:

  • Improved quality of life
  • Decreased number of hospital stays
  • Confidence to perform routine daily activities
  • Reduced respiratory symptoms (shortness of breath)
