Western Carolina UniversityAt Western, class sizes are small enough so that your professors will know you by name, and not as a number. WCU specializes in the old-fashioned personal touch, but believes in using the most modern technology in teaching and learning. In May 2000 and again in 2001, Western was ranked one of the 100 "most wired" campuses in the nation, but the university still holds dear its longstanding tradition of close community ties that began with the school's founding in 1889. Undergraduate students may choose from more than 120 majors and areas of concentration. Students interested in careers in engineering, law, medicine, dentistry, optometry, veterinary medicine and pharmacy may enroll in pre-professional programs. The Graduate School offers advanced degrees in more than 50 areas of study, including the education specialist degree, doctor of education degree, and master of science in nursing degree.
