Mountain Regional Cancer Centers are a joint venture of WestCare Health System, Asheville's Mission Hospitals and Southwestern Health System.

The two treatment facilities are located in the WestCare Medical Park of Sylva and in Murphy, NC, providing the most advanced radiation therapy west of Asheville.The Centers offer state-of-the-art treatment of deep tumors as well as a wide range of electron energies for superficial treatment. The Centers also offer both fluoroscopic and CT simulation; CT interfaced three-dimensional treatment planning and low dose rate brachytherapy services including prostate seed implantation.

 

David Thomas, MD, Medical Director of the Mountain Regional Cancer Center, is Board Certified in radiation oncology and medical oncology. Dr. Thomas served 5 years as a faculty member in the Department of Radiation Medicine at Georgetown University. The staff also includes a full time board certified radiation oncologist, two board certified medical dosimetrists, two registered nurses with specialized training in oncology, four board registered radiation therapists, an x-ray technologist, a consulting board certified medical physicist and two front office coordinators.

Mountain Regional Cancer Centers serve approximately 350 new patients a year. Mountain Regional Cancer Centers make it possible for residents requiring radiation therapy to receive quality cancer care close to home.
