MedWest-Harris Hospice and Palliative Care becomes the only hospice agency in the Western North Carolina region to have a National Board Certified Hospice and Palliative Care Administrator serving in a top leadership role.
Sylva, NC – Morgan Allen, Co-Director of MedWest-Harris Hospice and Palliative Care, responsible for the agency’s overall administrative and operational direction, recently earned designation as a Certified Hospice and Palliative Care Administrator (CHPCA). The certification is awarded by the National Board for Certification of Hospice and Palliative Nurses (NBCHPN®). Allen becomes one of only ten individuals in the State of North Carolina and two hundred nineteen individuals in the United States to have earned this designation.
Allen earned the certification mark "CHPCA" as a credential for successfully completing the one hundred thirty five question exam. The exam measures competency in a variety of areas, including leadership, fiscal management, human resource management, quality and ethics. The examination is offered four times throughout the year and continual recertification is necessary every four years.
Certification validates individual competence and knowledge and indicates a tested and proven proficiency across the spectrum of hospice and palliative care. It is also a recognized indicator of quality among patients and their families, as well as physicians, medical providers and the federal government. Certification in hospice and palliative care is highly valued and provides formal recognition of having achieved a standard of exceptional comprehension in the specialty.
Allen joined MedWest Hospice and Palliative Care in March of 2011 as the office/administrative coordinator for the WestCare Hospice division. Last year he became the Director responsible for the Operations and Administration of MedWest-Harris Hospice and Palliative Care. Previously, Allen served as Director of Operations and Communications for a large, international non-profit based in Virginia.
